Situated in the heart of Estonian countryside, the Maidla resort’s aim is to create a unique and luxurious accommodation complex; an experience of total immersion in the heart of the forest. Built in 2020 and designed by architect Mari Hunt of the B210 architecture firm, the construction of this building on the border between forest and a peat bog had to be realised on stilts because of the instability of the ground, but also because of the risk of the river flooding in the early spring. Given its terraced structure on several levels, the triangular building seems to gradually rise out of the heart of the forest like a tree that one would climb.

The clients wanted to find all the amenities
of a traditional hotel in a small modern habitat with a design that blended in perfectly with the environment, and without having to cut down any trees. The combination of the Grad® system and thermoash product
fulfilled all of their requirements. The whole
villa was created with just one wood variety. Ash provides a warm, natural, deep colour and is durable in the face of the variable weather conditions of the region. The invisible fixing system was used to realise a project that almost merges into the heart of nature, by being transparent.
