Wood ageing
As with any wood, the surface of Kebony will fade over time to a natural silver-grey colour. This process begins immediately after the products are installed and can take anywhere from a few months to several years, depending on the amount of UV light to which they are exposed. The durability of the boards is not affected.
If you want to preserve the darker tone of Kebony, we recommend that you oil the boards once a year with a resistant oil.

Treatment process
Kebony uses a patented modification process called furfurylation.
Furfurylation uses a biological liquid called furfuryl alcohol, derived from agricultural plant waste. Furfuryl alcohol is injected into the sapwood cells and, when combined with heat, bonds permanently, transforming softwood into hardwood. Although chemicals are used, the product is non-toxic, both during and after service.
Impregnation is the process during which the wood is immersed in furfuryl alcohol produced from a biological liquid, to make it dimensionally stable.
