Feuerland Residence, Nordhausen (Thuringia, Germany)
The project involves a new high-end residential complex named Feuerland, ideally located in Nordhausen, Thuringia. The developers’ goal was to create a modern architectural ensemble with clean lines, using materials that are durable, aesthetically pleasing, and low-maintenance.
Challenge
For the outdoor spaces, architect Nadine Stevens was looking for a contemporary-looking wood cladding that would meet high standards in terms of durability and ease of installation. Her search for a proven high-performance “modified” wood led her to choose thermo-ash combined with the patented Grad® invisible fastening system.
Solution provided by Grad®
In collaboration with local construction company Waresa and carpentry firm Kratzing, Grad® offered a comprehensive solution: thermo-ash decking installed on its rail system equipped with pre-mounted clips.
- Product performance : slightly curved boards (Comfort profile) for better water drainage, breathability, and lasting stability; grooved on the back for fast and precise invisible fastening using the Grad® clip.
- Ease of installation: the 530 square meters of decking were divided into 24 zones, modeled using the Grad 3D software, enabling meticulous planning.
- Time savings: the precise cutting lists generated by Grad® enabled efficient assembly. Each board was installed without complex adjustments.
Methodology
A detailed site survey was carried out by the Grad® Germany team. The data was then integrated into Grad 3D, the planning and 3D visualization software. This allowed for:
- the automatic generation of detailed installation plans,
- the division of surfaces into clearly identified zones,
- the creation of custom cutting lists for the substructure and decking boards.
Results
Thanks to this industrial and optimized approach, all terraces were installed in less than a month. Master carpenter Kratzing confirmed that a 21 m² balcony could be installed in a single day by just one person, under optimal conditions.
“Still screwing or already clicking?” he joked, after experiencing the benefits of the Grad® system.

Conclusion
The Feuerland project showcases Grad®’s ability to meet the most demanding architectural expectations while simplifying on-site work. The Grad® system, combined with precise planning and powerful digital tools, ensured a smooth, fast, and flawlessly executed installation.
