Wood ageing
Because Accoya Grey is dyed in the mass, it retains its uniform grey colour throughout its ageing process, which means it maintains a consistent aesthetic appearance. Unlike untreated wood, which gradually greys over time under the effect of UV rays, Accoya Grey does not undergo this transformation.
However, it may continue to evolve slightly in terms of shade, taking on an even more natural patina with exposure to the elements, but without any radical change in colour. If you wish to preserve the intensity of the grey tint, light maintenance (such as the application of UV protection products) may be recommended, but this is not strictly necessary to maintain its overall appearance.
Sustainable procurement
From FSC® certified plantations, Accoya Grey is a guarantee of wood from responsibly managed resources, combining quality and respect for the environment.
Exceptional stability
Thanks to its average tangential stability coefficient of just 1.5 Accoya Grey is one of the most stable woods in the world, resisting deformation due to climatic variations.
Timeless elegance
With its clear appearance and fine grain, Accoya Grey blends in perfectly with design projects, modern and minimalist projects, adding a touch of refined elegance.
Treatment process
Chemical principle: Acetylation chemically modifies the hydroxyl (OH) groups naturally present in wood, replacing them with acetyl groups. This process considerably reduces the wood’s ability to absorb moisture.
Applying Kebony®
Kebony uses a patented modification process called furfurylation.
Furfurylation uses a biological liquid called furfuryl alcohol, derived from agricultural plant waste. Furfuryl alcohol is injected into the sapwood cells and, when combined with heat, bonds permanently, transforming softwood into hardwood. Although chemicals are used, the product is non-toxic, both during and after service.
