MOSO® Bamboo N-Durance®

MOSO N-Durance: a warm caramel hue, the strength of compressed bamboo.
Made from crushed Moso bamboo strips, thermo-treated at 140°C and compressed to very high density, N-Durance offers a contemporary aesthetic, exceptional hardness, and Class 1 durability — for natural and contemporary decks and cladding.

The power of densified bamboo

  • Caramel hue, knot-free: The warm and homogeneous hue of N-Durance results directly from steam pressure treatment — no dye, no additives. Its smooth, lightly brushed, knot-free surface gives it an appearance reminiscent of the most refined exotic woods.
  • Outdoor-Density® Process: Bamboo canes are first thermo-treated at 140°C under steam, then compressed to very high density. This double treatment produces a material harder and more stable than most hardwoods — without chemical preservatives.
  • Durability Class 1 EN 350 / Class 4 EN 335: N-Durance achieves the highest European classifications for natural durability — maximum resistance to fungi, insects, and weathering, for intensive outdoor use on decks and cladding.
  • Fast and clean installation: Compatible with the Grad® system, clip fastening on an aluminum substructure ensures installation without visible screws, for a perfectly aligned finish. The slightly curved profile promotes water drainage and limits fouling on decks.
  • Fast-growing renewable resource: Moso bamboo grows up to 1 meter per day and regenerates naturally after harvest, without replanting. A direct and concrete alternative to tropical woods, without deforestation.

Wood aging

Upon installation, N-Durance displays a warm and luminous amber hue, lighter than X-Treme, with visible grain and a lightly brushed finish that gives it a matte and natural feel. The boards are pre-finished with a Sikkens Cetol Savanna protective coating that slows down aging from the moment of installation.
Under the action of UV rays and climatic cycles, the material gradually evolves towards an elegant and homogeneous silver-grey patina — a natural transformation, without impact on the mechanical performance or durability of the board, whether on facades or floors.
Slight cracks on the surface or at the ends of the boards may appear due to variations in humidity and temperature — a purely aesthetic phenomenon, without affecting the stability or durability of the material.
Routine maintenance
Periodic cleaning with a carbon silica brush — or a single-disc machine with a carbide disc — is sufficient to deep clean the boards and smooth surface fibers. Cleaning should be done lengthwise after moistening with a diluted outdoor cleaner. The use of a high-pressure cleaner is not recommended.
Maintain the initial hue
Annual maintenance with Sikkens Cetol WF 771 saturator or an equivalent Woca product helps maintain the original amber hue and minimize the appearance of micro-splinters. In a pool environment, the maintenance schedule should be more regular.
Allow to age naturally
Without maintenance, N-Durance evolves towards its silver-grey patina in a homogeneous and controlled manner — for a deck or facade with a noble and natural appearance, without intervention.

Treatment process

The N-durance® process begins with the transformation of Moso bamboo canes into strips. These are then subjected to a thermal treatment that permanently modifies their structure, improves their dimensional stability, and gives them a dark brown hue. The strips are then compressed and assembled under high pressure to obtain a very high-density material. This process allows for the production of particularly resistant, stable, and durable boards, suitable for the most demanding outdoor applications.
